If it's an emergency
If water is escaping, turn off the water at the stopcock and contact a local plumber, or your landlord or building manager. Keep clear of any electrical fittings that are wet.
If you smell gas, leave the property straight away. Don't use light switches, appliances or naked flames, and call your country's gas emergency number once you are outside.
